Pondalowie Surf Break
Known as Pondi. Pondalowie Surf Break is likely the most popular beach in Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park. The car park is some hundreds of metres from the beach, however this allows for a stunning walk through the low sand dunes along a beautifully constructed and maintained boardwalk. As the name suggests this beach is often the venue for surf competitions. It offers regular, medium surf and a long viewing area attached to the boardwalk. The beach stretches over a kilometere from the Pondi fishing village to the northern point. Small islands scatter the view over the surf.
The name Pondalowie comes from the Narungga word 'Barndalawi' meaning 'stony waterhole'. Narangga maps have the area marked as having a freshwater source close by.
Pondalowie is home to one of the states largest crayfishing fleets. The boats operate out of the sheltered section of the bay, with a small village supporting the vessels.
